So 2009 came and went, leaving in its wake a number of truly brilliant games, as well as a number of dodgy ones (you know who you are), and now here we are in 2010, ready for yet another onslaught of gaming goodness. With so much to look forward to, we thought now would be a good time to put together a list of some of our most eagerly anticipated titles on their way in 2010, packed in an easy to use slideshow below...
- Alan Wake
This psychological action thriller from Remedy Entertainment was starting to look a little like vapourware until a whole lot of fresh gameplay footage was pulled out of the shadows in 2009. It seems we will finally get our hands on this Xbox 360 exclusive in 2010, and we couldn't be more excited.
- Aliens vs. Predator
With three singleplayer campaigns and 3-way multiplayer, this amalgamation of two of the most loved sci-fi franchises looks set to cause a frenzy when it hits the shelves later this year.
- Battefield: Bad Company 2
Destructible environments was the name of the game for the first Bad Company, and the sequel looks to take that to a whole new level. If you've seen this game in action you will already know Bad Company 2 is going to blow us away this year.
- Bayonetta
Already landing ridiculously high ratings from reviews, this over the top action title is being touted as an early candidate for the best game of 2010. A witch with 'Torture combos'? Sounds like a sure-fire hit to me!
- Bioshock 2
It was a no brainer that we would see a return to Rapture, but who would have guessed that this time it would be in the boots of a Big Daddy? Throw in multiplayer, and Bioshock 2 looks set to rock the gaming world once again.
- Call of Duty: Vietnam (Title TBA)
All we can really be sure of is that there will be another Call of Duty, and all bets are on it appearing sometime near the end of Q4. Rumors have the sequel played out in a Vietnam setting, which, while not confirmed, would be damn cool.
- Darksiders
Vigil Games' take on the Book of Revelations is getting gamers all worked up, with its arresting visual style directed by comic book legend Joe Madureira, intriguing storyline and a great mix of action and adventure.
- Final Fantasy XIII
Yes RPG fans, Final Fantasy XIII is on its way to the Xbox 360. Expect big hair, big swords and guns, and all kinds of madness from this, the biggest JRPG franchise of them all.
- Fable 3
Peter Molyneux has hinted that we could well see Natal support for Fable III, as if we needed more reasons to be quivering with excitement for this Xbox 360 exclusive.
- Halo: Reach
According to Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg, Halo: Reach will be "the biggest game of 2010", an opinion shared by the hordes of Halo acolytes who spend their days fighting the Covenant and their nights dreaming of Master Chief. There's no denying it, this game is going to be huge.
- Lost Planet 2
Capcom's trademark frenzied action coupled with massive boss battles made the original Lost Planet a blast to tear through, and with the promise of bigger bosses, more depth to the campaign and co-op support, this sequel looks to improve on the original in every way.
- Mass Effect 2
By now this list is starting to look overrun with sequels, but if the sequel in question is for one of the most highly regarded RPG's of all time, that just makes us feel happy inside. And what's more, the release date is just around the corner!
- Medal of Honor
EA has decided to give the Medal of Honor franchise a reboot this year, what with everyone being into warfare with a modern setting these days. Sceptics just need to clap their eyes on the early footage to be assured that this game is going to be a serious contender.
- Red Dead Redemption
It's Grand Theft Auto with cowboys, horses, shootouts, and saloons filled with women with questionable moral virtues. April can't come soon enough!
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
Many years ago the early screens showed Sam Fisher looking a bit like a homeless guy. Fast forward to 2010, and he's looking lean, mean, a little grey, and ready to kick some serious ass. The delay did this game a world of good.
