Star Wars: The Force Unleashed gets released to South Africans today. There has been a lot of anticipation for this game, so has it succeeded in delivering or not?
To find out a more I decided to download the demo to see what it is all about. The quick tutorial gets you into the groove of things very quickly and you are soon off into the Star Wars world. You take on Darth Vader's secret apprentice, code-named "Starkiller" as he hunts down the remaining Jedi after an order was issued for them to be killed. Your core weapon is the use of the Force to manipulate your surroundings. This is an obvious appeal for the game, and something that peaked my interest. It's fairly easy to use with the control system given, however, I did find that sometimes it's hard to direct where you want to throw an item. This is always difficult to do in a "3D" enviroment set on a 2D medium. I actually started to find it rather frustrating as enemies are attacking me and all I seem to be doing is creating fireworks for them to watch. Needless to say, it didn't help. But your character is pretty strong and I didn't end up dying at anytime in the demo. The graphics look great and although the story line is almost non-existant in the demo, from what I've read it fits in very well into the Star Wars world.
I won't lie, I did enjoy myself even with the odd frustration. How much that would be influenced by playing the full version can't be said just yet. But for a Star Wars fan I think it could be an enjoyable adventure. If not more so for the story line as I think you will find the gameplay isn't anything more than the usual "hack-n-slash" approach.
