17 billion hours logged on Xbox LIVE

Xbox 360 gamers have spent an astounding 17 billion hours using Microsoft's online service, Xbox LIVE, according to a tweet by Xbox LIVE Community Manager, Trixie360. That's 2 hours for every person on the planet, and a massive leap compared to the last figure which stood at just 1.5 billion hours in 2006.

Trixie360 continued with another tweet, saying that "there have been more than 1.2 billion downloads of gaming and entertainment content from Xbox LIVE Marketplace. About 100 per second!". A rather healthy increase over the 3 million recorded downloads in 2006.

It's obvious that Xbox LIVE is a key player in Microsoft's success in the console market, and I'm sure we'll see the focusing on more ways to broaden the services on offer as more and more gamers take their consoles online.

Now, all we need is Microsoft to finally recognise South Africa is an untapped market, and give us official Xbox LIVE status, and we're good to go.
