This week marked the unveiling of 2upGamers, a Cape Town based outfit with big plans to kick the local gaming scene into top gear with monthly gaming gatherings, industry-related guest speakers and more. The goal? To put Cape Town on the "gaming map", after years of the Mother City playing catch-up to the burgeoning Johannesburg scene.
"We’re very excited as we step into a new era within the local gaming industry down here in Cape Town and hopefully early next year, we’ll be looking to spread our wings into the other provinces like the Eastern Cape, Kwazulu-Natal and beyond" said Glenn Alexander, one of the co-founders of 2upGamers.
Considering the growing popularity of the CPTGamer gatherings, as well as the successful Cape Town launch of Battlefield 3 just a week ago, the 2upGamers crew could be the unifying factor that our local community needs to help it flourish.
The inaugural 2upGamers gathering brings the whole concept to life this evening in Rondebosch, Cape Town, and will feature speakers from MWEB, Kalahari.com, and the 2upGamers team. There are still seats available, but right now the website seems to be undergoing an update of sorts, so your best bet is probably to contact 2upGamers via Twitter at @2upGamers or their Facebook page.
