Now that Gearbox Software has finally put the finishing touches on the much delayed Duke Nukem Forever, all eyes fall to one of their other big name projects, Aliens: Colonial Marines, another regularly postponed shooter now confirmed by publisher SEGA for release in autumn 2012.
"To Gearbox Software and its peers throughout the industry, ALIENS is one of the most influential science fiction properties of all time," said Gearbox president Randy Pitchford. "Aliens: Colonial Marines, designed as an interactive successor to the landmark films from Twentieth Century Fox, is a dream project about which our studio is deeply committed and passionate."
Recapturing the terrifying nature of the films must be a daunting task, but Gearbox has the pedigree to pull it off. With authentic Alien-related locations and an arsenal of weapons inspired by the films, along with the series' trademark blood-chilling fight for survival against the deadly Xenomorphs, it looks like Alien: Colonial Marines may be worth the wait.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is scheduled for release in autumn next year, and we can expect to have a good look at it on display at E3 next week.
