After a backlash from gamers over the pre-order exclusive Physical Warfare Pack, EA DICE has conceded that the downloadable content will only be a timed-exclusive, with the contents becoming available to all for free "later this year".
"If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3 at a retailer carrying the Physical Warfare Pack, don’t worry. We will unlock the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack for free to all Battlefield 3 players later this year," said Karl Magnus Troedsson, General Manager at DICE on the official Battlefield blog.
Troadsson went on to confirm that the previously announced Back to Karkand DLC will still be available for free to all those that pre-order the game, however, "it is not day one DLC and it is not on the base game disc," so expect a wait between the retail release and the Back to Karkand DLC release. For those wondering, you will still be able to pick up the Back to Karkand DLC without pre-ordering, and on the same day as everyone else, however, it will set you back an as yet unspecified amount.
Battlefield 3 will be out on 25 October.
