Could it actually be happening? Blizzard Entertainment has posted up new job listings for a senior producer and lead designer to join the console department of their Diablo 3 team.
Candidates are required to have prior experience in console game development, from "shipping or porting multi-platform games" to a "strong sense of what makes a fun and compelling experience for console titles and games in general".
Blizzard Entertainment has mentioned numerous times over the past few years that a console release for the highly anticipated action RPG Diablo 3 "might work very well", but until now, we've seen little evidence that the developer intends to follow through with it.
Diablo 3 still hasn't received a fixed release date yet for the PC, so it may be even longer before a console release materializes, if it does at all. But hopefully this latest tidbit means Blizzard is taking the idea of a Diablo 3 console port seriously.
Update: It seems similar job postings have been around since November last year, with Blizzard issuing the following statement on their website in response:
We're exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles and are currently looking to fill a few senior console-related positions on the Diablo III team. As we’ve said in the past, with proper care the gameplay could suit the console platform, and we’re interested in seeing what talent out there might be interested in such a project. If you’re passionate about all things Diablo and have the requisite skill and experience, then head over to our jobs site to check out the positions and apply.
