Not many developers have remained as faithful to PC gaming as Blizzard Entertainment over recent years, but that doesn't mean the company won't consider doing a console release. According to numerous comments by the company over the past few years, Blizzard has been entertaining the idea of a Diablo console port for sometime, and it looks like it's still a possibility.
"I think you could make an argument that a game like Diablo might play very well on a console," said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaim, speaking at this years DICE Summit. "It's something that we're actually doing an investigation into to see if that could make sense." It seems the big stumbling block is the lack of flexibility offered by consoles compared to PC gaming when it comes to patching, updating and expansions.
Morhaime was also asked whether he thought that Diablo would be the game in their stable which would be most easily ported for consoles, to which he answered with an affirming nod.
Exiting stuff. But considering how long Diablo 3 has taken to arrive for the PC, we may be waiting a while before anything materializes for console owners.
