Ubisoft has announced Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, the fourth title in the traditionally authentic World War II shooter series, currently under development with Gearbox Software once again at the helm.
This time Gearbox is taking a different approach, putting aside the straight-laced warfare we associate with Brothers in Arms and going for a more over-the-top and stylised attitude. In a story with subtle Inglorious Basterds undertones, BIA: Furious 4 follows four distinctive warriors on the tail of the Führer, fighting off an experimental Third Reich army along the way.
"The Brothers in Arms franchise has been renowned for its gritty direction that has dropped players into the middle of World War II," said Adam Novickas, U.S. director of marketing at Ubisoft. "With Brothers in Arms Furious 4, Gearbox brings the action to a whole new level filled with unexpected twists and over-the-top battles that are sure to please new players and fans alike."
While hardcore fans of the series may be put off by Brothers in Arms: Furious 4's more light-hearted approach, this new direction could see the franchise being welcomed by a wider audience. With a full co-op campaign for up to four players, as well as an "extensive competitive multiplayer" component, Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 is worth keeping an eye on while we lead up to its release sometime in the first half of 2012.
