The guys over at Gamespot got their hands on Epic and People Can Fly's upcoming gorefest Bulletstorm, and put the game's recently unveiled Anarchy and Echo multiplayer modes through their paces.
First up is the co-op Anarchy mode, which looks like something from Gears of War 2's Horde mode, pitting up to four players against increasingly difficult waves of enemies. Unlike Horde, however, the trick to Anarchy mode is not just killing enemies, but killing them in specific ways according to the game's "skillshot" dynamics. For example, this might mean shoving enemies off a bridge for a "vertigo" kill.
Co-operative teamplay is also a significant feature. As the article describes, "By working together, we could pull off kills that wouldn't be possible on our own. For example, one kill required us to latch onto an enemy with our leashes while another team member kicked him. This caused him to split into several pieces and shower the floor with blood."
Next up, Echo mode sounds a little like Halo's campaign scoring metagame, where players can replay selected missions of the single-player campaign - minus the cut-scenes and dialogue - and simply go for the biggest score possible. The mode features leaderboards with friends' scores for that extra competitive edge.
Bulletstorm is set to launch locally and in the UK on 25 February 2011.
