"Ridiculous" and "fun", these two words, more than any others, seem to sum up many of the opinions on People Can Fly and Epic Games’ "kill with skill" shooter Bulletstorm. Whether the over the top violence and profanity driven combos call to you like a siren, or drives you mad with censorship rage, you have to admit one thing - Bulletstorm's got you attention. Now we just have to find out if that attention is worth it or not as the reviews slowly start pouring in:
- Joystiq: "It's been a long time since I've grinned as widely while playing an FPS as I did with Bulletstorm. It's a vulgar, violent and supremely gung-ho experience obviously created by some slightly mad people who really love the genre." – 4.5/5
- IGN: "Bulletstorm is actually something kind of special. Sure, it's still brash, and it's still full of toilet humor, but with context, Bulletstorm is a violently charming popcorn shooter that plays well with some great design." – 8/10
- Eurogamer: "This is a game that wants you to laugh so hard that you sneeze on yourself, but it's also a game that wants you to experiment as much as possible with the tools you've been given. Its cleverness is as lightly worn as it is unexpected. It's the best kind of guilty pleasure." – 9/10
- 1UP: "When it lets itself, it's a fantastic adrenaline rush through well-constructed set-pieces and gloriously fun-to-watch violence. But it too often drags itself down with overly structured situations and restrictive, strategy-heavy gameplay." – B-
- The Escapist: "Bulletstorm so successfully harnesses the elusive high of fun-based, immersive flow that you will find yourself coming back to it again and again." – 4/5
- Metacritic: 87/100
Bulletstorm is entering a very serious military FPS dominated market whilst drinking, swearing and kicking all kinds of butt in hilarious fashion. If you’ve grown tired of attacking generic soldiers in sand colored environments, keep an eye out for Bulletstorm when it hits local shelves this Friday, 25 February.
