EA and Criterion Games have teamed up to bring the popular arcade racing franchise Burnout to the Xbox LIVE Arcade, with Burnout Crash adding new top-down gameplay when it releases this "Fall" 2011 (September - November).

Re-inventing the Crash Mode from previous games in the series, Burnout Crash sees players rewarded for causing "traffic chaos" by crashing into cars, triggering explosions and destroying everything and anything in sight over three game modes. As with previous EA racers, the game will be powered by Autolog, allowing players to "connect, compete and compare" with friends online.

"Burnout CRASH! is a crazy mix of pinball and game shows," said Richard Franke, Creative Director on Burnout CRASH! "We’ve evolved the core gameplay which everyone loved about Crash Mode, and expanded the whole experience using music, style and Autolog to create what we feel is the most mindless fun you can have on any gaming platform."

While Burnout Crash will be playable with a controller, Kinect gamers will be able to take advantage of a game mode designed exclusively for Kinect in which two teams use gestural controls to play on one console in a party battle mode.

Perhaps not what Burnout fans were expecting, but sounds fun nonetheless. Look out for Burnout Crash later this year.
