Bar a few stand-out franchises, the vast majority of HD home console releases tend to show up on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, purely because it makes financial sense to expose a game to as large an audience as possible. CD Projekt raised some eyebrows then when it was announced that the heavily hyped The Witcher 2 would not see the light of day on Sony's console (at least, not anytime soon). Now we have an explanation from the developer as to how this decision came about.
Speaking to the Official Xbox 360 Magazine, CD Projekt's Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and Jakub Stylinski laid out the facts.
"It's our first experience with consoles - we've only worked on the PC until now, and we wanted to make a really good adaptation of our game. We've used the same team who worked on the PC version to make a really good adaptation," said Tomaszkiewicz. "We've used the same team who worked on the PC version to make the transition to Xbox, mainly because when we tried to outsource the first Witcher, it ended up being a bad experience. We could have tried to bring it to other consoles, but we just wanted to focus on the one platform."
"Our team isn't that large - we can't focus on three platforms at once," added Stylinski. "What we're doing now is making the same additional content for PC and Xbox, and if we were working on PS3 too we just wouldn't be able to get it all done."
While this exclusivity deal must be a blow for fans of Sony's system, at least we can be sure that our Xbox 360 version will be the best possible port that it could be.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be slashing its way into stores on 17 April.
