Talking to Eurogamer, Final Fantasy XIV Online creator and director Hiromichi Tanaka said the game won't turn up on Xbox 360 because of LIVE's "closed" environment.
"The main reason why we couldn't go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox LIVE system," he explains. "[LIVE is] different to the normal internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice.
"Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox LIVE. We're still talking to... We couldn't come to an agreement on Xbox LIVE."
This isn't the first time we've heard about Xbox LIVE's policies being a major stumbling block for MMOs coming to the Xbox 360, and it continues to push developers and publishers who plan extensive online capabilities for their games away from the platform - it isn't hard to see why services such as Steam have been announced for PS3 and not Xbox.
Final Fantasy XIV Online is due out sometime this year. Not on Xbox 360.
