You can't have a high profile release without giving it a shiny (and usually expensive) limited edition to lure in the hardcore fans, and Crytek's upcoming sci-fi shooter Crysis 2 is no exception. Publisher Electronic Arts has announced that there will be two special editions available to gamers, the Crysis 2 Limited Edition and the Crysis 2 Nano Edition, both available in March next year.
The Limited Edition will be go on sale at no extra cost over the standard edition, and will include the following four in-game unlocks:
- Bonus XP – Players will jump into multiplayer battles with an edge by starting with enough experience points to gain early access to all 5 preset class load-outs.
- SCAR Hologram Decoy – This special attachment to the SCAR will project a hologram image of the player, allowing them to confuse their opponents with the decoy.
- SCAR Weapon Skin – This digital camouflage skin will allow players to add a personalized touch to one of the more popular assault rifles in the game.
- Platinum Dog Tag – This special one-of-a-kind dog tag is one of over 250 that will be collectible in Crysis 2 multiplayer, helping to separate you from the rest of the field.
While that's all fine and dandy, it's the Nano Edition that hardcore fans will really be after, packaging the Limited Edition in a special steel case and including an 11" statue of the games' hero 'Prophet', as well as a high-quality artbook, all neatly packed inside a Nanosuit-style backpack for £119.99 (around R1400). Now that's more like it!
EA also made it known that there will be a closed multiplayer beta for the Xbox 360 version of Crysis 2. No further details were given, but we can expect it to start "later this year".
Crysis 2 will be available in stores on 25 March 2011.
