It's been a while coming, but Eidos Montreal has finally officially announced Deus Ex: Human Revolution, a prequel-sequel set 25 years before the first Deus Ex game. The trailer doesn't reveal much, although IGN's developer Q&A does, including an interesting comment about the game's setting from director Jean-Francois Dugas:
"You do not need to be an old Deus Ex fan to appreciate the game – we have a new main character and supporting characters that you'll encounter during the journey. At the same time, we felt [Deus Ex 2] Invisible War took the franchise too far into the future and became almost sci-fi, whereas the first game used the typical gritty Cyberpunk archetype we all loved, and we wanted to get back to that."
He also confirms that the game will be much the same sort of action RPG as previous titles, oriented towards "giving the player choices which have consequences". So like Mass Effect then. It's also confirmed that the game will be strictly single-player.
