Five years on from the last one - and just when everybody had totally forgotten it ever actually existed - Square Enix has announced the return of the action RPG franchise Dungeon Siege, and, because it's all the rage these days, it's coming to console.
Oddly enough, however, original developer Gas Powered Games is only advising on the project, with lead development moving over to Neverwinter Nights 2 and Fallout: New Vegas studio, Obsidian Entertainment.
“It has been a great pleasure to collaborate with Obsidian," says original Dungeon Siege creator, Chris Taylor. "They are a very talented developer who really knows what it takes to build a deep and engaging RPG experience, and I can’t think of a better group to continue the Dungeon Siege series”.
Remember, Obsidian is headed up by Feargus "Fallout" Urquhart, so that "very talented developer" stuff isn't just corporate spin.
Dungeon Siege 3 will include both single player and multiplayer co-op, and will see you take on all sorts of villains and beasts in the kingdom of Ehb:
Torn asunder, the delicate balance of power between the kingdom of Ehb's powerful factions has fallen apart. As one of the few remaining members of the disgraced protectors of the land, the 10th Legion, it is up to you to rebuild the once great Legion and stop Ehb from falling into darkness. Joined by a group of unique companions, you will travel through the striking land of Ehb defeating all manner of villains and beasts through a combination of heroic abilities, screen shaking magic and fearsome weapons.
No release date set yet, although with Obsidian currently tasked to Fallout: New Vegas, this one won't be coming out anytime soon.
