EA and Burnout developers Criterion Games have teamed up to bring the Need for Speed franchise "back to its roots" with the newly announced Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.

"At Criterion, we've been playing Need for Speed since it was first introduced on 3DO. We are honored and excited by the opportunity to reinvent the franchise for today's connected audience," said creative director at Criterion Games Craig Sullivan. "Our goal has been to create cops vs. racers pursuits that are so fun, fast and exciting it really brings to life the adrenaline and intensity of the high speed cop pursuit experience with your friends."

The new Hot Pursuit title will feature both cop and racer single player campaigns, along with multiplayer modes for head-to-head pursuits and races. The game will also link into the Need for Speed Autolog network, enabling players to compare performances and stats.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is set to release on 16 November in the US, and 18-19 November in Europe. I suspect SA will be 19 November barring any Icelandic volcano activity.
