EA not caving in to Medal of Honor controversy

Medal of Honor

EA and its upcoming franchise reboot of Medal of Honor have been all over the tabloid headlines recently, with the ability to play as the Taliban provoking some fierce public censure and the British Defence Secretary Liam Fox calling for a nationwide ban on the title. While the company acknowledges the controversy, however, they're not prepared to give in and change anything about the game.

Talking to Develop, EA Games president Frank Gibeau says, "We respect the media’s views, but at the same time [these reports] don’t compromise our creative vision and what we want to do. The development teams care very much about what they’re building, and of course a bit of criticism from the media causes some to get demoralised, but at the end of the day we’re proud of what we’re doing. Brining Medal of Honor back was no small feat."

He also makes a comparison with other media, asking "why films and books set in Afghanistan don’t get flack, yet [games] do. Whether it’s Red Badge Of Courage or The Hurt Locker, the media of its time can be a platform for the people who wish to tell their stories. Games are becoming that platform."

Medal of Honor will be out locally on 15 October.
