A recently revealed teaser trailer gave us our first look at an all new Need for Speed in the works, and now publisher EA has made it official: Need for Speed: The Run will be tearing up the asphalt in November this year, bringing with it all the Hollywood blockbuster action we've come to expect from the story-based entries in the franchise.
"This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level," said EA exec Jason DeLong. "We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering - explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour."
This new chapter in the Need for Speed franchise will make use of EA DICE's Frostbite 2 engine - the same tech that will be bringing Battlefield 3 to life - with a narrative that sends players across North America as they "weave through dense urban traffic, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds."
Need for Speed: The Run is set to appear in stores on 15 November in North America, 17 November for European audiences, and presumably on 18 November here in SA and UK.
