EA Sports signs top fighters for MMA release

EA has announced that they have signed Russian brawler Fedor Emelianenko to headline their MMA title, along with fellow Strikeforce fighters Gegard Mousasi and Renato Sobral.

The signing of Emelianenko is not just EA grabbing the scraps from the MMA table, it is in fact quite a power play, since he is currently the top ranked heavyweight fighter in the sport. This is definitely a sign of intent from EA to get some real talent in their game to compete with THQ's UFC Undisputed franchise.

With UFC president Dana White threatening to ban any fighter from his stable who stars in the competing franchise, it will be interesting to see what EA's next move will be to get the big names on their side.

Tim Kennedy, a former special forces soldier and popular MMA fighter has apparently now signed a deal with EA to appear in the game, even though his manager is in negotiations with UFC for a contract... And he is aware of White's plan to ban the guys who jump ship to EA's game. So it would appear that it is in fact all about the benjamin. Thats money, by the way. He won't say how much he's been paid, but I bet it was a good fistful of dollars.
