After a stint in the heat of Africa, the Far Cry series is going back to its jungle roots. Ubisoft has announced that Far Cry 3 is currently under development by Ubisoft Montreal, with assistance from Ubisoft Shanghai and Massive Entertainment, for a 2012 release.
This time around, gamers take on the role of Jason Brody, who's been stranded on a "mysterious" tropical island where "lawlessness and violence are the only sure thing". The story will unfold dynamically as players dictate which battles they choose to fight and allies or enemies they make along the way, with Brody slashing, sneaking and shooting his way across the lush island that has "lost all sense of morality".
"Far Cry 3 brings something new and unexpected, while still building upon the foundations of excellence that are inherent to the Far Cry brand," said Dan Hay, producer at Ubisoft Montréal. "Whether you’re already a fan of the Far Cry series or jumping into the franchise for the very first time, you’re going to be blown away by the gritty story and epic adventure we’re going to deliver."
Ubisoft showed the game in action during their E3 press event, showing what looks like a more aggressive melee system, impressive environmental detail and a whole lot of jungle fever. Check it out below...
