First details on Ubisoft's XBLA game 'Outland'

Outland

Previously known as nothing more than a title in Ubisoft's PAX 2010 line-up, Outland now has real details thanks to a preview over at IGN.

It's a terrifying premise - a mashup of "Prince of Persia or Out of This World and the color-switching of shoot 'em up Ikaruga". Terrifying, because if you've ever played Ikaruga, well, you'll know it's terrifying.

Gameplay revolves around your character's light and dark forms, which can switched at anytime by the player. While in dark form, for example, you're impervious to all damage from dark sources, and vice versa. Conversely, of course, you'll deal and take damage using the opposite polarity. This polarity mechanic is also used to manipulate the environment, including making use of elevators and platforms.

Expect more to come out of PAX this weekend, with the game scheduled to release sometime next year.
