We loved Gears of War 3, calling it "a fitting end to an epic saga" in our review, and it looks like much of the gaming public felt the same way, as Microsoft and Epic Games have announced that Gears of War 3 sold more than 3 million units in its first week.
The achievement means that Gears of War 3 is currently the biggest selling game of 2011, and brings the overall lifetime sales for the franchise to a healthy $1 billion.
For those of you keeping score at home, Gears of War 2 managed an impressive 2 million copies in its opening weekend, but took a month to hit the 3 million mark, meaning that this final chapter is well ahead of the sales curve compared to its predecessor, and in our opinion, well deserved.
