A new Halo 3 expansion, called Halo 3: Recon has been confirmed at this years Tokyo Game Show 2008. Set before the main events of Halo 3, you'll be playing as a ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) soldier leading up to the Master Chief's return to New Mombasa. New missions in the way of single player and multiplayer will be available and it looks like there will be more street fighting as seen in Halo 2. It's been set for release in Fall 2009 (or next year this time), which is further away than I expected. The latest trailer shows us more of Halo 3's new hero:
