Okay, so Strategic Options is out now. It throws in three additional game modes, including something called Tug of War, along with Reinforcement Mode, and Keepaway that's really just Capture the Flag. The pack also adds four new Achievements worth 100G, and is going for a not inconsiderable 800 MS Points on the Marketplace. The entire DLC pack is also only 2 MB in size, prompting complaints about the high price point and speculation that the content is already on the Halo Wars disc, while all you're buying is an unlock key.
Apparently the guys over at Robot Entertainment don't read the news or something, because pretty much exactly the same thing happened with Resident Evil 5 just a few weeks ago. Anyway, Halo Wars lead designer Dave Pottinger subsequently responded to complaints on the game's forum with this:
"None of the DLC was on the disc when it shipped. The game modes are a small download because they are rules. There is some new content, but it's obviously a different type of content compared to a map. Also, the recent patch added a bunch of missing support/engine groundwork for both DLCs."
So that's where your 800 points are going, everyone. Rules and stuff that was missing before. Queue it up, and feel totally vindicated. Or something.
