Update 2: The Battle Code is now up on the South African Xbox LIVE Marketplace. The rest of the DLC should also be available on the local Marketplace.
Update: Howard Lonstein, Product Manager at Ster Kinekor, contacted XG to inform us that both SK and THQ are actively taking steps to address the problematic DLC with Microsoft. Lonstein stressed that they take this matter very seriously and hope to have the local DLC problems resolved in the next day or two with the co-operation of Microsoft UK and South Africa.
Original Story: A steady stream of problems have plagued THQ and Kaos Studios' highly anticipated shooter Homefront since its North American launch earlier this week, including freezing issues, lag, and a host of multiplayer problems. Now South Africans have their very own personalized problem to contend with: "invalid" Xbox LIVE DLC codes.
Soon after the local release on Friday, gamers reported on the Xbox-360.co.za forum and the official Homefront forum that they were unable to redeem the included Battle Code - which unlocks multiplayer past rank 5 - as well as the pre-order bonuses, such as exclusive weapons and "Day 1" unlocks. Closer inspection reveals that the content is actually missing on the South African Xbox LIVE Marketplace, which would explain why local gamers are receiving this error.
So far the problem is restricted to Xbox LIVE users with South African accounts, and locals with UK or US accounts have been unaffected by this specific issue.
When contacting Kaos Studios' Community Manager Jeremy Greiner via Twitter, Greiner responded that he was apparently unaware of the issue, and suggested that anyone experiencing the problem should report it on the THQ support site using the "Ask a Question" option.
The real question, of course, is how did this happen in the first place. Whether the problem lies with THQ or Microsoft (or both), someone dropped the ball and once again local Xbox LIVE gamers have received the short end of the stick.
We've contacted local THQ distributor Ster Kinekor to find out more, and are awaiting a response.
