Like a proud parent, Microsoft has announced that the Kinect system has officially hit the 10 million sales mark, and has done so at such a pace that is has earned a place in this year's Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition as the fastest selling consumer electronics device.

“The sales figures here speak for themselves,” said Gaz Deaves, Gaming Editor for Guinness World Records. “According to independent research, no other consumer electronics device sold faster within a 60-day time span, which is an incredible achievement considering the strength of the sector.”

An average of 133,333 units were shifted daily in the first 60 days from launch, totalling 8 million over the period, while over 10 million stand-alone games for the system have been sold worldwide to date. It looks like Microsoft's attempt to breathe new life into this console generation has paid off.
