L.A. Noire to be a 3-disc affair

It seems that the eagerly awaited L.A. Noire is just so heavily loaded with content that it can't possibly all fit on one Xbox 360 disc, with publisher Rockstar Games confirming that the detective drama will span three discs when it's released later this month.

Speaking to Kotaku, Rockstar veteran Jeronimo Barrera explained the reasons for L.A. Noire's sizeable data requirements:

"L.A. Noire was always going to be a massive game, from the size and detail of the world to the length of the cases, and of course, the sheer amount of MotionScan data required for the faces of over 400 actors in-game," said Barrera. "To tell the story and make the game we wanted to make, we knew that it was going to take an entire single layer Blu-ray disc and three Xbox discs."

Those who are concerned that this will mean the action will be regularly interrupted for a momentum-killing disc-swap can rest assured that the swaps are rare and carefully timed:

"Since the game is built around the concept of progressing through individual cases from desk to desk, players on Xbox will find disc-swapping is hassle-free. In fact, players will only need to swap discs twice at natural breaks between cases without interrupting the flow of the game."

Right now I don't care if this game shows up on a million floppy discs, I just can't wait for L.A. Noire to blow our socks off when it releases on 20 May.
