After much speculation, it is now official. LEGO Rock Band has finally been announced. Warner Bros. and TT Games are teaming up with the LEGO Group, Harmonix and MTV Games to bring us a unique combination of sorts. They're calling it the merger of two of the most popular video game franchises, LEGO and Rock Band, that mixes the best of what Rock Band music games have to offer with the fun of the LEGO "build-and-play" experience. Like all the other LEGO themed games from Traveller's Tales (TT Games), they are focused on delivering a family-friendly, humorous video game for players of all ages to experience together.
The track list is said to consist of chart toppers and classic favourites suitable for younger players, with a few of those listed below.
- Blur - Song 2
- Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting
- Europe - The Final Countdown
- Good Charlotte - Boys and Girls
- Pink - So What
The total number of tracks is yet to be disclosed. What we do know is that the game will have support for all Rock Band instruments, as well as other music game controllers. The finer details like controller bundles, track transfer and DLC have yet to be revealed.
Harmonix has done a great job with allowing players to transfer their Rock Band 1 tracks over to their hard drives so that they can play them in Rock Band 2. I wonder if they have something similar planned for LEGO Rock Band. And the same goes for track DLC. Will all DLC be universal amongst all Rock Band titles or will LEGO Rock Band receive its own unique DLC? We are just going to have to wait and see.
An official release date has not yet been confirmed but the game should be releasing later this year. At this point in time, we are not 100% sure whether or not LEGO Rock Band will be available locally as both the original Rock Band and Rock Band 2 are not. This will depend heavily on which company distributes the game. If Warner Bros. takes up this responsibility, we might just see a local release through Nu Metro.
