Capcom has confirmed the Marvel vs. Capcom 2 remake rumor is indeed true, and will hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime this winter.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 won’t receive the complete graphical rework, a-la Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, even though the same developer, Backbone Entertainment, is making it. Rather, it's a direct port of the Sega Dreamcast version in which they've added a few graphical enhancements such as HD upscaling and widescreen support. Even though the game uses the same art assets and textures from the Dreamcast release, according to Christian Svensson, Capcom's vice president of strategic planning, the original art assets were of much higher quality than the Dreamcast could display, so now when displayed in HD, the graphics are actually quite impressive. Furthermore, according to a Capcom Unity blog post, players will be able to choose between 3 different graphics styles: Classic, Smooth and Crisp.
As for the other features, the game will support online play as well as custom soundtracks. And for those that are fed up with having to unlock characters in fighting games, you'll be glad to hear that all 56 characters will be unlocked and available from the get go.
Amongst all the good news, there is a bit of bad news - Capcom has announced a demo for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 releasing sometime this week, but unfortunately, it's exclusive to the PSN. I guess this is Capcom's way of making up to PSN users for the SSFIITHDR beta that was only available to XBL users.
