Update: Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series, has officially confirmed via Twitter that Mass Effect 3's multiplayer mode will be co-op based:
Yes, co-op MP missions for #ME3: they're real, and they're spectacular. Rest assured it's nothing of what you've feared. More soon...
Original Story: It looks like we can finally put those multiplayer rumours to bed, as Australian gaming magazine PC PowerPlay has confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will get online multiplayer.
"That’s right - Mass Effect 3 is getting multiplayer!" revealed the magazine on their website. "We travel to BioWare’s office in Edmonton for hands-on time with the series’ first foray into online gameplay, and chat with Mass Effect Series Producer and Mass Effect 3 Project Director Casey Hudson about the decision to go multiplayer in the epic battle for the galaxy."
The magazine's cover includes the insert "Fight alongside your friends as the galaxy goes to war!" which supports reports from Eurogamer sources suggesting that the multiplayer will be a standalone online enabled co-op mode featuring competitive elements.
Expect more details soon, as the magazine is set to hit shelves in Australia on 19 October.
