Shrouded in a fog of controversy over the decision to base the action on the very real conflict still taking place in Afghanistan, EA Games' Medal of Honor has built up quite a substantial buzz before the gaming press even got their hands on it. Now that reviews are coming in, the common thread through most opinions seems to be that this franchise reboot is good but not as good as everyone expected it to be. Let's have a look at some of the scores coming in so far.
- 1Up: "...it's a mostly well-built title with seemingly good intentions, but it lacks the weight -- whether it's in the narrative, campaign length, or feature set -- to seem like much more than a quality diversion." - B
- Eurogamer: "...it's compelling and enjoyable to play on a visceral level, but it's a shame it lacks the creative bravery to match the courage of the heroes it so reveres." - 8/10
- GiantBomb: "Medal of Honor alternates between its derivative style and its annoying technical glitches way too frequently to rise above the crowd." - 3/5
- IGN: "Swinging wildly between the horrors and danger of war and unrealistic action movie moments and hampered by a surplus of boring scripted sequences, not even DICE's talented multiplayer designers are able to elevate Medal of Honor to something memorable." - 6/10
- Joystiq: "Medal of Honor's campaign is an exceptional experience, but the total package simply doesn't beat Call of Duty. But at least EA's getting closer." - 4/5
- Metacritic: 76/100
Medal of Honor is armed and ready for local deployment this Friday, 15 October.
