It takes a brave publisher to try and introduce a new FPS franchise these days, but THQ took the gamble and ended up surprising many with a solid game in the post-apocalyptic shooter, Metro 2033. Now VP of core games at THQ, Danny Bilson, has revealed via CVG that a sequel, Metro 2034, is under development and will include 3D support.
"We're showing Metro 2033 in 3D right now, which Nvidia is showing as one of their key demo products," said Bilson. "We're going to be doing a 3D version of that on Metro 2034 - the sequel. And there will be some engineering costs there, but that's in our lowest cost centre in the world. Those games are unbelievably reasonable, they're built in Kiev." Kiev being the home of Ukrainian developer 4A Games, of course.
While 3D support isn't specifically mentioned for console versions, the rise in 3D TVs should see THQ try and add 3D support to all platforms.
"Some people were confused about why we'd go into a market where there's only one percent TVs," Bilson explained. "It's about a great game and a plus up on the marketing side. We're there at low risk and high quality, but, again, we'll have to see how that market grows and what value is there."
Fans of Metro 2033 will also be glad to hear that the first DLC pack is on its way, with "new achievements and the 'Ranger Mode' game rules", expected to release sometime in "the very near future".
