Microsoft has announced the acquisition of VideoSurf, a video search engine company that uses fancy technology to "see" inside videos to improve search results, with the hopes of integrating this technology into the Xbox 360 experience.
"VideoSurf’s content analytics technology will enhance the search and discovery of entertainment content across our platform," said Alex Garden, director of Xbox LIVE for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "Over time, as we integrate VideoSurf’s technology into our system, we are excited about the potential to have content tagged in real time to increase the speed and relevance of the search results."
With nearly 40 new TV entertainment services set to launch in the coming months, along with the addition of voice search in December's Xbox 360 dashboard update, it seems Microsoft's latest purchase will certainly come in handy.
