After much rumour and speculation, Microsoft has finally revealed their plans for expanded TV entertainment services on the Xbox 360, confirming that nearly 40 new providers, including HBO GO, Syfy, BBC, and many more, will start rolling out onto Xbox LIVE starting this Holiday.
"Today’s announcement is a major step toward realizing our vision to bring you all the entertainment you want, shared with the people you care about, made easy," said Don Mattrick, president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "Combining the world’s leading TV and entertainment providers with the power of Kinect for Xbox 360 and the intelligence of Bing voice search will make TV and entertainment more personal, social and effortless."
The big question, of course, is whether any of these new services will be available in South Africa. We've sent off an email to Microsoft SA, but after scrutinizing the press release, it seems like only two new services will make their way down South: YouTube and Dailymotion, both well known online video sharing sites. So no DSTV then.
Elsewhere in the world, however, Xbox 360 gamers will have plenty to look forward to, including live television and on-demand services.
