According to Fudzilla, Microsoft may discontinue the Xbox 360 Elite SKU, and instead replace it with Limited Edition bundles such as the Resident Evil 5 LE console bundle coming out later this month. It has been suggested the move is being prompted by the current economic climate which has seen retailers move away from carrying high-priced stock.
Further to phasing out the Elite bundle, Fudzilla say Microsoft will also introduce a new, bigger hard drive.
Currently the only difference between the Xbox 360 Elite and Pro console bundles is the bigger 120GB hard drive, and of course the colour. It makes sense for Microsoft to discontinue the Elite as a standard bundle, but I really do hope they can price the hard drives better than they currently do.
If this rumor is to be believed, Microsoft will stop taking orders during their 2nd Quarter (which ends in March), allowing stock to run down. Then it's Limited Edition bundles from then on - which will only be released with top shelf titles such as Resident Evil 5 and may be priced higher than the Elite.
