Microsoft has released their figures for the second quarter (ending 31 December) which show a significant increase in profits for the Entertainment and Devices Division, which includes the Xbox 360, Games for Windows and Zune.
While the division saw revenues drop from $3.2 billion to $2.9 billion, profits were up a staggering $245 million thanks to reduced manufacturing and marketing costs, along with higher margins on Elite and Special Edition hardware.
Breaking that down even further, sales of Xbox 360 consoles dropped down to 5.2 million from 6 million in the previous quarter, and a 12% decrease in revenue from hardware and software sales. Looking beyond the Entertainment and Devices Division, Microsoft as a whole saw revenue up 14% to $19 billion. Yes folks, that's the kind of money Scrooge McDuck could fill his vault with and swim in.
