After over 5 years of Xbox 360 gaming there could finally be something new in the pipeline, with LinkedIn job listings indicating that Microsoft is in the process of recruiting development talent to work on the next generation of the Xbox console.
The first position listed is for a Graphics hardware architect needed for the Xbox Console Architecture team, who needs a solid background in "3D graphics rendering architectures and algorithms (ideally with gaming applications in mind), 3D software pipelines, and physics."
The Xbox Console Architecture team, which is apparently involved from early evaluation right through to high volume manufacturing, is also looking for a Senior Architect and Performance Engineer who will focus on "performance evaluation and modeling." Lastly, Microsoft are in search of as a Senior Hardware Design Verification Engineer responsible for "design verification and qualification of the Xbox console at the component, motherboard, and system levels".
The current generation has already run longer than any other that came before it, and a new generation has always been more of a "when" than an "if", but this marks the first time that we have any evidence that Microsoft could have started development in earnest.
