Wondered why the new slim Xbox 360 doesn't support those custom faceplates that were all the rage five years ago? Because they're not all the rage anymore. In fact, they never really were.
In an interview with OXM UK, Microsoft's global marketing director Albert Penello admits the accessory was a commercial bomb. "We don't ever create an accessory with the intent of having it fail", he says. "The idea wasn't bad... people used to put faceplates on their cell phones. Rewind five years, faceplates were what everybody wanted to do. Turned out nobody bought it. So [we stopped] making them. We killed that one pretty quickly".
Conformity it is, then. Unless you want to buy one of those expensive limited edition consoles to be differe- oh. Oh, I see what they did there.
