The Los Angeles Times has published the first details on a new anime series based on the Halo universe, called Halo Legends. The new project is being produced by Microsoft and their internal Halo team, 343 Industries, and sees some of the biggest names in the anime industry, such as Production I.G. (Tales of Vesperia) and Studio 4C (Kid's Story - Animatrix film), working on seven short films.
While the individual studios were given relative freedom with regards to visual style and creative expression, 343 Industries have been very involved in assuring that the stories merge seamlessly with the much-loved Halo world. And even though most movies based on games have been largely disappointing in the past, the quality of the studios involved with this new project, coupled with Microsoft's enthusiasm for one of their most popular franchises, could see Halo Legends become an exception to the rule.
Halo fans can look forward to Halo Legends later this spring when the films are released on Xbox Live, as well as DVD, Blu-Ray and other digital platforms early next year.
