If the latest report is accurate, DICE's sublime first-person action adventure game Mirror's Edge will not be getting a sequel any time soon, if ever.
According to Swedish gaming site Press2Play.tv, EA's senior vice president Patrick Soderlund has confirmed that development of Mirror's Edge 2 has been halted, saying that a prototype showing off ME2 was "declined" by the publisher, prompting the development team over at DICE to close up shop and move onto another project - probably something with "Battlefield" or "Medal" in the title somewhere.
It's heartbreaking news for Mirror's Edge fans, but also for gamers as a whole. Publishers are seemingly shying away from anything outside their comfort zone, meaning truly fresh and innovative IPs are few and far between; and their numbers seem to be dwindling. Are we now going to be left with EA competing with Activision on who can roll out the most military shooters every year? Let's hope not.
