What do we want?
Local console servers!
When do we want them?
Now!
South African console gamers have for a long time had to put up with poor latency and a lack of support by publishers and developers, and it's high time that our local community is taken seriously - especially when it comes to dedicated servers. And that's the aim of a new Facebook campaign by local ISP Mweb, who've decided to take matters into their own hands and are asking the local community to support their bid to bring more dedicated console servers to SA.
From Mweb's Facebook page:
Let's let the voice of the SA console gamer be heard!! We are tired of high pings playing on international servers when we still pay the full price for the game! Let MWEB host the servers! Tag yourself in this image and add your name to the petition. We'll do the rest in sharing this with Electronic Arts (EA) South Africa, Activision, Battlefield, Treyarch, Battlefield 3, EA, Microsoft Game Studios.
While I'm not sure why Mweb would approach Treyarch and Activision (no Call of Duty game uses dedicated servers on console; it's all peer-2-peer), the sentiment is good, and it's great to see a high profile company such as Mweb willing to back local console gamers. So make sure you head on over to Mweb's Facebook page and tag yourself on one of the campaign banners (there's a limit to the number of tags per banner, so if one is full, just try the next one), and you never know, maybe we'll finally get those local Battlefield 3 servers we've all dreamed about.
