Following the exciting news earlier today that Mweb will be hosting the first dedicated servers for Gears of War 3 in South Africa, we decided to find out whether their upcoming plans include the hotly anticipated military shooter Battlefield 3. As it turns out, Mweb has indeed been trying to make local Battlefield 3 servers a reality for both Xbox 360 and PS3 gamers, but so far EA and DICE have yet to confirm anything.
"We have exchanged correspondence with the local EA office and the DICE team, offering to host local servers for Battlefield 3 for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3," explained Mweb's Online Gaming Manager, Desmond Kurz. "We have, however, not received an indication if they are willing to go ahead with looking at local instances of the NextGen console servers.
"We really hope that they allow us to host these servers, because it will be a great win for the local gaming community," Kurz continued. "MWEB is putting up their hands to help make this happen wherever we can." It seems like the ball is firmly in EA's court.
XG has been in contact with EA South Africa several times over the past few months regarding local dedicated servers for console gamers, but unfortunately we've yet to receive any confirmation that anything will happen. Hopefully EA will come to the party, but time is running out, as Battlefield 3 is set to invade stores next week Friday, 28 October.
