EA has squashed any rumours of the Need for Speed series stalling for good by announcing a new title, Need for Speed Shift. Expected summer 2009, NFS Shift is a true racing simulator, featuring "stunningly realistic first-person cockpit view camera and an all-new crash mechanic, providing an unrivalled sensation of the speed and feeling of racing a car on the extreme edge of control".

Need for Speed Shift is being developed by Slightly Mad Studios, which includes developers and designers behind titles such as GT Legends and GTR 2.

Perhaps this is the kick-start the NFS series has been looking for, I mean, you gotta be slightly mad to try and revive it, right?
