Need for Speed: The Run, the next title in the popular Need for Speed franchise, is just about ready to pull out onto the retail highway, so to get gamers into the right frame of mind for more high-speed action, EA has announced a demo for Xbox 360 gamers, hitting Xbox LIVE on 18 October.

For this early look, gamers will be strapped into the bucket seat of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, as well as the 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S, which will only be available once players refer a friend to download the demo. 

Need for Speed: The Run focuses on a high-stakes race from San Francisco to New York as gamers take on the role of Jack Rourke as they battle 200 of the world’s most notorious racers for a $25M cash prize. It's the first racing title to use the Frostbite 2 engine - that's the same one behind Battlefield 3 - and will feature out-of-vehicle QTE events to spice things up.

Need for Speed: The Run takes to the tarmac on 18 November.
