Battlefield 3's co-op mode is "the perfect blend between the strong narrative from single player and the open-ended action from multiplayer" - that's according to EA DICE's Jr. Product Manager Tommy Rhydling, who dropped new intel on the co-operative campaign in a post on the Playstation Blog.
Rhydling went on to describe the co-op mode as a fusion of "the replayability of multiplayer with a pick up-and-play mentality to create a totally new flavor of Battlefield". Instead of just hacking a co-op mode from the standard campaign, Battlefield 3 will include a purpose-built co-op campaign where levels follow a "unique series of events that lead up to an explosive finish," with random elements thrown into the mix to keep gamers on their toes and entice players to replay levels.
Teamwork is obviously an integral part of co-operative gameplay, with Rhydling saying that it's "practically never forced upon you, but working together will make things much easier." And you'll want to succeed, not just because your score will be posted up for all to see on Battlefield 3's social framework, Battlelog, but because you can also unlock certain weapons in co-op which can be used in the multiplayer modes too.
All of this surely has the makings of an impressive new addition to Battlefield 3's online arsenal, and right now that 25 October launch date couldn't come soon enough.
