Following yesterday's drama over at Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward, Activision has announced plans to expand the Call of Duty brand even further, including an action-adventure spin-off already in development over at Sledgehammer Games, and headed up by ex-Visceral guys, Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey.
Activision went on to confirm what we already know:
- Treyarch is working on this year's Call of Duty release. Details are still sketchy, but current rumours point to a Vietnam game, possibly involving a Cold War plot line.
- Infinity Ward is still working on the Modern Warfare 2 DLC which is only dated as "Spring 2010", or Autumn for those in the Southern hemisphere.
- And just in case you haven't guessed it by now, someone, somewhere is working on another unspecified Call of Duty game scheduled for a 2011 release.
It's unclear whether Infinity Ward will be at the helm of the 2011 release, and taking into consideration that they've already expressed their wish to do something "complete new", as well as the recent problems with Activision, it could well fall to another developer.
But I'm sure Activision are smiling ear to ear at the thought of more COD games, even if "saturation" doesn't mean much over at Activision HQ. Then again, are we going to say no to more Call of Duty games?
