THQ has revealed that a downloadable precursor to the upcoming Red Faction: Armageddon is in the works, to be released on Xbox LIVE Arcade around three or four months before the full game hits store shelves in March 2011.
This forms part of THQ's plans to generate awareness (and cold, hard cash) for its core franchises, and hopefully help drive retail sales by the time the full game is released.
"One of the other strategies we have is Xbox Live and PSN games on our big brands. They're revenue generators and marketing tools," said THQ's vice president of core games, Danny Bilson. "There's going to be a Red Faction Arcade game that ships about three or four months before Armageddon. What's interesting is that we will sell it to the fans, it will have content you can download that is TV show-related, it will build up to the new game and also we can use it to drive pre-orders, too; we can give codes and aspects of it, we can give the whole thing away."
Bilson also made it known that we can expect to see the same sort of approach to the marketing for the Saints Row franchise, with what he called the "biggest trans-media play anyone has ever done", to be revealed in December this year.
