It's the annual Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas this week, and - surprise! - Microsoft's been talking up Project Natal during their keynote presentation.
According to Andrew Fitzgibbon, Principal Researcher for Microsoft Research, "What Natal does, is it evaluates effectively trillions of body configurations every frame. We've made it do that 30 times a second." That's not too shabby for a little HAL 9000 eyeball watching everything you do in 3D space.
Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, Microsoft has also announced that Project Natal is coming out this holiday season already. It's all too easy to speculate some sort of nefarious arrangement between Microsoft and Santa Claus, since Natal's going to be seeing who's naughty and who's nice 30 times a second.
Expect more details to emerge as we near the release window.
